Born free living wire free and on the edge

Is the relentless progress of un-wiring the world nearing almost 40% of the world population all-good? Downes and Mui wrote about second order effects in their book "Quest for the killer app". The industry has gone a long was since the publication of that book.
What are the lessons learnt? Is regulation possible or will it be seen as Draconian? Should the mobile network be allowed to develop like its cousin the word wide web! Should freedom of speech and right to information be used to spread both good and malicious thoughts?
On the other hand, is it that age is catching up with a digital immigrant like me and somewhere I am failing to see the "digital world" being able to transform the world into a place where peace has a chance and hate no place in anyone’s life. Foolish notions perhaps, but then as Lennon said "Imagine"

Prefer seeing it through Tom Peters' book 'Re-Imagine'
